Wait, lets park the broadcaster and BCCSA and ask….
Has Fanie Mkhwanazi been arrested yet for multiple statutory rapes in retrospect?
I could not watch the #OPW show for reasons that I could not control but I read the reports. A self confessed paedophile moonlighting as a reformed pastor, who raped 14 year olds when he was a 28year taxi driver- has been rewarded with airtime on TV; in return he has rewarded one of his rape victims with marriage, and termed her a lucky girl.
16 days of activism against woman and children abuse has just been given a twist by a romanticized and glorified rape.
It is disturbing when rape gets accepted and defined as a mere uncomfortable social issue. Rape has been given a new definition by society and wider media for profit and entertainment….
Okay, let’s leave this one for now…
Fanie is a self confessed statistic and needs to go jail, I say. We have lots of Fanies in society. They are a reason most men will no longer be allowed to spend quality time alone with their daughters and nieces. They are a reason men will be questioned about their motives for buying ice creams and jelly tots for the little ones. Fanie has just made it impossible for some guy out there to “like” a picture of an adorable little girl on social media, for fear of being labelled a rapist . Fanie came out in the open and has advanced some nasty revolution on how men should interact with women in general. The truth of the matter is that we can no longer be trusted around our very own female species, young and old. He has proved how much we have become the beasts who eat children for gratification “no pun intended!” and we do not see any problem with it. We simply can no longer be trusted…
Brothers, are we doing enough to protect our daughters ,nieces and sisters from this rife paedophilia? If you are sitting in your house with a 14year old daughter or niece, or any age for that matter; look into their eyes and ask yourself if you have done enough to protect and cared for them.
Let us go back to the basics..let us sacrifice bottles for a while, wear some t-shirts and get our hands dirty out here, we are responsible and accountable for this scourge.
Thanks to my personal friend and a sister Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng Maseko for standing up to what we were supposed to have done in the first place- as men of this country. I hang my head in shame on behalf of all South African men who share the sentiment.
Can we start talking louder?
